Online event “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine”

MOHA participates at the online discussion “Mohammed Ali Pasha: Uniting Greece and Egypt; Our future for culture” which will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 12:00 (Cairo time zone) / 13:00 (Athens time zone).

As part of the activities implemented on the International Museum Day under the auspices of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), the President of MOHA Research Center, Mr. Michael Lychounas, and the Director of the Manial Palace Museum, Abbas Hilmi Pasha, meet online to unite the legacy of Mohammed Ali Pasha. He has been portrayed in the West and throughout the Arab world as a general who emerged from obscurity and became the founder of modern Egypt. Mohammed Ali Pasha was in fact an Ottoman born in the Macedonian port of Kavala.

As Mohammed Ali’s Imaret and mansion in Kavala, and the Manial Palace Museum in Cairo reflect the glory of the ruler and his dynasty, they also demonstrate how culture transcends national and religious differences, spreading the message of unity, cooperation and mutual respect.
